The challenge

Our client is one of the largest energy suppliers in Europe. He needed a reliable solution to support the inspection processes of renewable energy infrastructure, which included wind turbines, photovoltaic panels, hydroelectric and biomass power plants. The aim was to ensure the stable operation of the infrastructure, avoid financial losses and optimize inspection processes. Old tools were unreliable and time-consuming, which increased the risk of reporting errors, downtime, power outages caused by failures, and most of all — generated costs.

The solution

The comprehensive solution included:

• Data & ML/AI Services:
  • Machine learning model for automatic anomaly detection based on sensor and camera data
  • A data analytics system to provide information on the condition of the RES infrastructure and to predict failures
• Cloud Services:
  • Deployment of the entire solution in the Azure cloud to ensure high scalability, availability and security
  • Leverage a wide range of Azure services such as App Services, SQL Database, Storage and Machine Learning Services
• Application Engineering Services:
  • Design and implementation of a dedicated web-based platform to manage the inspection process, enabling inspectors to easily and quickly capture inspection data and automatically generate reports
  • Use of modern technologies to build the platform, such as React, Redux, Java, Spring Boot and Azure Active Directory

The result

The implemented solution brought a number of benefits to our client:

• Increased availability of the RES infrastructure - early identification of potential problems at an early stage enabled preventive maintenance activities, reducing the risk of failure and downtime
• Streamlining the inspection process - process automation and an intuitive mobile app allowed for reduced inspection times and improved reporting accuracy
• Time and cost savings - the automation of the inspection process also reduced the cost of operating the infrastructure

The customer also appreciated compatibility with multiple browsers and mobile systems, as well as innovative features such as the ability to record voice notes during site visits and online/offline mode.
